About

Aisling O'Carroll is a designer, researcher, and licensed landscape architect, trained in both architecture and landscape architecture. Her practice and pedagogy integrate design with history and theory methods to address pressing social, ecological, and environmental issues. Her present research examines critical and experimental approaches to reconstruction as design. This work addresses the relations between landscape architecture and interdisciplinary fields including architecture, geology, and climate science, drawing on concepts and practices from a range of fields including science and technology studies, feminist studies, archaeology, and art history. Her experimental reconstructions and research have been exhibited internationally, including at Het Nieuwe Instituut, OmVed Gardens, and the Royal Danish Academy, and published widely, including with LA+ Journal, RIBA Press, and Amsterdam University Press. 

Since July 2025, Aisling has been appointed Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Landscape Architecture at ETH Zürich, Department of Architecture (D-ARCH). This position will begin in January 2026. Previously, she was Lecturer (Teaching) at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, where she served as Interim Programme Director for Landscape Architecture between 2022 and 2023, and as Programme Coordinator for Landscape Architecture from 2020 to 2023. She has taught seminars and design studios at Harvard Graduate School of Design, The Bartlett, and University of Toronto, and has practiced internationally with design firms and research platforms. She is co-founder and co-editor in chief of The Site Magazine. She is currently completing her GRS/ORS-funded PhD in Architectural Design at The Bartlett.
